A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pastimes much better than checking the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at loved ones. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy news items came out during the festive period, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
