Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
