Interior Minister the government has announced what is being labeled the most significant changes to tackle unauthorized immigration "in decades".

The new plan, patterned after the tougher stance implemented by Denmark's centre-left government, establishes asylum approval temporary, restricts the review procedure and threatens visa bans on countries that impede deportations.

Provisional Refugee Protection

Those receiving refugee status in the UK will only be allowed to stay in the country on a provisional basis, with their status reviewed biannually.

The scheme echoes the method in that European nation, where protected persons get 24-month visas and must submit new applications when they terminate.

Aid would still be available for "those who are destitute" but will be withheld from those with employment eligibility who do not, and from individuals who break the law or refuse return instructions.

Those who "intentionally become impoverished" will also be denied support.

According to proposals, asylum seekers with property will be compelled to contribute to the expense of their accommodation.

This echoes that country's system where protection claimants must use savings to pay for their accommodation and authorities can take possessions at the customs.
