The President Invites Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Devastating Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.

Presidential Call

The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Reaction

Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” the principal, the principal of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”

Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Judicial Steps and Policy Changes

Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The event led the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of travel documents.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to visit the family.

Memory of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
