Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of acetaminophen, alleging the corporations withheld potential risks that the pain reliever created to children's neurological development.

The lawsuit follows a month after Former President Trump promoted an unproven link between taking Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in children.

The attorney general is filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, which formerly manufactured the medication, the sole analgesic suggested for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which presently makes it.

In a statement, he said they "betrayed America by making money from suffering and pushing pills ignoring the potential hazards."

Kenvue says there is lacking scientific proof connecting acetaminophen to autism spectrum disorder.

"These manufacturers misled for generations, knowingly endangering numerous people to increase profits," Paxton, a Republican, stated.

Kenvue stated officially that it was "seriously troubled by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the well-being of American women and children."

On its online platform, the company also said it had "continuously evaluated the pertinent research and there is insufficient valid information that indicates a proven link between taking acetaminophen and autism."

Groups speaking for medical professionals and health professionals agree.

ACOG has declared paracetamol - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is a restricted selection for pregnant women to manage pain and fever, which can present serious health risks if left untreated.

"In multiple decades of studies on the utilization of paracetamol in gestation, no reliable research has successfully concluded that the use of paracetamol in any trimester of pregnancy leads to neurodevelopmental disorders in young ones," the organization commented.

This legal action mentions latest statements from the former administration in asserting the medication is potentially dangerous.

Last month, Trump generated worry from public health officials when he instructed women during pregnancy to "fight like hell" not to take acetaminophen when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then published an announcement that doctors should consider limiting the use of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism in young ones has not been established.

Health Secretary Kennedy, who supervises the FDA, had promised in spring to initiate "comprehensive study program" that would establish the source of autism in a short period.

But authorities warned that finding a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the result of a intricate combination of genetic and environmental factors - would prove challenging.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of permanent neurological difference and impairment that impacts how individuals experience and relate to the surroundings, and is recognized using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is seeking federal office - alleges Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "willfully ignored and attempted to silence the evidence" around paracetamol and autism.

The lawsuit seeks to make the firms "eliminate any promotional materials" that asserts acetaminophen is reliable for pregnant women.

The Texas lawsuit echoes the grievances of a collection of guardians of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

The court rejected the legal action, saying research from the plaintiffs' authorities was inconclusive.
