Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they cannot be real Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight home defeat of the year.
However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when Vicario lost the ball well outside his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.
However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.
Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, some Spurs fans booed him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing episodes truly irritated Frank.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Alright booing following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a early advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half performance.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I do understand the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the decisive goal."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italian international the keeper is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
He stated following the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second score was a error of mine, I take accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "We can't be influenced by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to remain more composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in calmness and calmness to reverse results. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple score for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next longest-range Premier League goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
10 seconds passed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 moments after the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.
"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them defended the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of extra time. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
While the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to extend their home ground woes.
The match was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to play prior to the close of the season.
Only one of those victories have occurred since the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said Frank.
"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have suffered another game. Every game has a single story, today we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," Murphy said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a major football club with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
